In this short WordPress Video Tutorial — I explain “How To Install The JW Player Plugin for WordPress”, as well as how to embed an external video eg. YouTube video that is HTML5 ready, which simply means when a mobile device visits your site that does not have the Flash Player install can still view the video.
Content Delivery Networks (CDN’s) And Other Video Platform Videos
You can also exchange the external video (eg. YouTube) for one that is on your content delivery network (CDN), eg. Amazon S3, Amazon CloudFront, or MAX CDN etc etc.
Flash And HTML5
So, what exactly is happening in the background you ask? Well, when you video a site with the JWPlayer embedded on your site it will determine if they have the Flash Player installed (most PC/MAC’s have it installed, as well as some* mobile / tablet devices), and if it does it will show the flash version of the embedded video. And if the visitor does not have the flash player installed it will automatically show them the new HTML5 version of the video, so regardless of what device they come to your site with it will still show the video. Cool huh?
Get More Video Views With Custom Video Stills
Another great little bonus is that you can set your own video still, so the image that gets shown before the video is played. For example, when you paste in a YouTube video URL it will grab the default image from there. As an alternate you can upload your own video still in the same dimensions as the video. So, if your video is 570px x 320px, then make sure your video still is the same size. **Just look at the one I have created for this video. 😉
